San Diego Blood Bank and Univision Radio Team Up For Blood and Bone Marrow Drive and Fiesta

The San Diego Blood Bank and Univision Radio stations La Nueva 106.5 and Recuerdo 102.9 FM are teaming up to hold a Blood and Bone Marrow Drive, along with a fiesta featuring several types of food and dance troupes from the House of Puerto Rico, on Saturday, October 10th, from 11 am to 4 pm, at Westfield Plaza Bonita in National City.

Bloodmobiles will be parked in the lot adjacent to Macy’s along with the Be the Match marrow registry where potential donors can join the National Bone Marrow registry free of charge.

The first 100 blood donors will be awarded a free Pat and Oscars meal card and coupons from El Torito. In addition, donors will enjoy free food sampling from Panda Express, Sharky’s Mexican Woodfired Grill, Sbarro’s pizza and Hot Dog on a Stick.  Blood donors will also be entertained by two dance troupes, Reinitas Borincanas and Jovenes Boricuas, from the House of Puerto Rico from noon to 1 pm.  On-air personalities from the radio stations will be at the drive, and will have their popular “Spin 2 Win” wheel to award station prizes.

Appointments can be made for the drive or donors can walk-in during the hours of 11 am to 4 pm – everyone is welcome to donate.

Everyday thousands of patients are searching for a life saving marrow donor.  Patients have the greatest chance of finding a match within their own ethnic background.  Currently Hispanics only make up 9% of the 7 million members of the Be The Match registry.

Anyone who is at least 17 years old, in generally good health and weighs at least 110 pounds may qualify to donate blood.   To join the Be the Match registry, potential donors must be 18-60 and in good health, be willing to donate to any patient in need, meet the health guidelines, and provide photo I.D.
