  •  As of January 16, the hours for whole blood donations at the main location of the blood bank, 440 Upas St., San Diego, 92103, and the East County Donor Center, 776 Arnele Ave, El Cajon 92020, will be Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Both centers are closed for whole blood donations on Sundays and Mondays.
  • The blood bank’s North County Donor Center hours will change to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday beginning January 18th. This center continues to be closed on Sundays and Mondays.
  • The San Diego Blood Bank’s main location and East County Donor Center will also be increasing hours for platelet donor appointments only on Sundays and Mondays.  Platelets, which have only a five-day lifespan, must be kept on hand at all times for patients with serious blood disorders.

“It is hoped that platelet donors will find these new hours more convenient,” said Lynn Stedd of the blood bank.Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good health may be eligible to donate blood.  A good meal and plenty of fluids are recommended prior to donation.  For more information or to make an appointment to give blood, please call 1-800-4MY-SDBB or visit www.sandiegobloodbank.org.
