Loyal San Diego Blood Bank Donor Wins 2008 Honda CR-V, Compliments of the Honda Dealers of San Diego County, at Chargers Blood Drive XXIX

While local hospital patients were the real winners at yesterday’s Chargers Blood Drive at the Town & Country Convention Center, Theresa Somers of San Diego felt pretty lucky too.  Somers, who walked to the event in Mission Valley because her current car is unreliable, drew the winning key that started the 2008 Honda CR-V donated by the Honda Dealers of San Diego County.

“I give blood several times a year, said Somers a writer at the Union Tribune.  It doesn’t take a lot of effort to give blood and it’s gratifying to be paid back in a way I never expected!”

About 5,000 people turned out for the 29^th annual Chargers Blood Drive, helping the blood bank collect 1,944 pints of blood for local hospital patients, in addition to the 3,207 units collected during Chargers Mania the week preceding the drive.  The blood bank’s Stem Cell Donor Center also added some 150 names to the National Marrow Donor Program registry.
