XX 1090 AM, San Diego 1700 AM and 105.7 The Walrus are joining the San Diego Blood Bank in remembering America’s September 11th Heroes at the 7th Annual Patriots Day Blood and Bone Marrow Drive at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park on Thursday, September 11, from 9 am to 3 pm.
All blood donors will be awarded a “Never Forget” T-shirt and a pair of Live Nation Concert Tickets (while supplies last) to the following groups: Santana, Maroon Five and Counting Crows, Switchfoot and Third Day and the Led Zeppelin Tribute Band, Led Zepagain.
Donors will also be treated to a Pat & Oscar’s fresh, hot breadsticks and salad from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.This year’s drive is made possible by presenting sponsor Disabled American Veterans and BAE Systems. Bone marrow testing for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP®) is free at this drive thanks to a generous donation from the Bone Marrow Foundation of San Diego.
The blood and bone marrow drive on September 11th is a commemoration of the dedicated San Diegans who gave blood in September 2001, as well as the many heroes who lost their lives that day. Thanks to the U.S. Navy, the San Diego Blood Bank was the first to fly 380 pints of blood requested by the New York Blood Center to New York at 1p.m., on September 11th, 2001.
You may qualify to be a marrow or blood stem cell donor if you meet the following requirements:• Are between the ages of 18 and 60
• Have no history of asthma, cancer, diabetes, neck or back problems, heart or circulatory disease
• Are within 20% of the ideal weight for your height and age set by the NMDP®
• Are willing to donate to anyone who needs a transplant
