Blood Donations Help Patients Like... Ireaun Burks

14-year-old Ireaun Burks was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia at birth, a blood disorder in which a lack of healthy red blood cells prevents the transport of oxygen throughout the body. It wasn't until her second birthday that Ireaun began to experience difficulty. Her first symptom was a swollen spleen that was eventually removed.

Since her diagnosis, Ireaun has received multiple transfusions as part of her ongoing treatment. She has already come to understand the value of volunteer blood donations and hopes that by sharing her story, others will learn the difference they can make by giving on a regular basis.
