Fleet of Life Saving Vehicles

The San Diego Blood Bank's primary fundraising goal in 2011 is to refurbish and replace aging bloodmobiles and blood delivery cars, trucks and vans. Without this Fleet of Lifesaving Vehicles, we could not achieve our mission of providing quality blood products to local hospital patients.

More than 50% of our blood supply is collected on bloodmobiles. Currently, we have five buses that are more than 10 years old.  In order to replace one of these aging bloodmobiles with a state-of-the-art vehicle, we need to raise $250,000.

A new bloodmobile can increase our blood donations by approximately 10% or about 10,500 units of blood annually. Bloodmobiles are used every day of the year (except Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Year's Day), at multiple locations throughout the County. Lives depend on financial donations towards our bloodmobile program.

The San Diego Blood Bank also has an urgent need for new blood delivery vehicles. These vehicles transport blood and blood products to San Diego area hospitals and beyond. Blood delivery vehicles are driven an average of 80,000 to 100,000 miles per year. We deliver blood every day to hospitals, many times during life-threatening situations. We must have vehicles ready for delivery at all times. By helping us purchase new blood delivery vehicles that are fuel-efficient and more environmentally friendly, you are enabling us to ensure a healthy blood supply for our community.
