The Plight Of A Six-Month Old Boy Sparked Initial Plans For Community Blood Center In Temecula Valley
The outpouring of support for the son of Lake Elsinore Storm General Manager Chris Jones sparked the first discussions for a Temecula Valley blood center in the summer of 2004. Six-month old Bryce Jones was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder and required several transfusions. The San Diego Blood Bank hosted both a blood and bone marrow drive on Bryce's behalf at the Storm's stadium.
Chris Jones was amazed at the number of people who turned out to donate blood for his son, prompting him to join the San Diego Blood Bank's efforts to open a local blood center in the Temecula Valley.
Eventually a matching donor was found for Bryce and he received a transplant. Today, Bryce Jones is a four and a half years-old and doing amazingly well.
He and his family will never forget the outpouring of support they received from the community and pledge to help make sure other patients have access to the same lifesaving blood and blood services.
