As the holidays wind down and you get ready to welcome in a new year, now’s the best time to celebrate your wins from 2017 and set goals. Maybe 2018 is your year for stepping into a new job or starting a business. Maybe it’s your year to meet a new love. Or maybe you want to expand your impact in your community to help make the world a better place.

Whatever your goals, we’ve compiled the Top 5 Tips to help make 2018 your best year yet.

Take care of your health

When you feel well, you can do more in all areas of your life. Research shows that people who take care of their personal health are more likely to be successful. Take time to listen to your body and give yourself a little extra boost. Perhaps that means going to bed earlier on weeknights, adding 1-2 more days of exercise into your routine, drinking more water instead of coffee or soda, or incorporating more vegetables into your daily diet. Start with a small change that feels manageable and build from there. Consider using a health tracker app or journal to log your daily successes. With consistent progress, you will start to see improvements to your health in short time!

Do more of what you love

If you could spend your day doing anything you wanted, with no obligations, what would you do? Your answer to this question will shed light on an activity or a few that you really enjoy. It’s easy in our busy lives to prioritize work, family time and other responsibilities over time spent doing our favorite things. Yet, when we take time to do what we enjoy, we feel rejuvenated. Try spending a couple of hours each week doing something you love – whether that’s hiking, practicing yoga, painting, playing music, drawing, reading, cooking, etc. – and see how this simple shift will help you do your best in all areas of your life.

Spend time with friends

Studies show that feelings of loneliness are on the rise. Even in our hyper-connected digital world, we still crave face-to-face interactions to help us build meaningful relationships. So, put down your phone and laptop, and take time to connect with a friend over coffee or an activity on a regular basis. This is where you will find a few good laughs, get support to try new things, and talk about those small setbacks that are bound to come up along the way.

Learn something new

Remember when you were a little kid and the world was filled with magic? Everywhere you went, there were new things to discover. As we get older, this feeling of curiosity about life tends to dwindle, but all hope is not lost. What’s something you’ve wanted to try or learn about for a while? Watch a how-to video on YouTube this month, pick up a book, or check out the class list at a local community college. You might discover that wood burning or graphic design are hidden talents you never knew you had. And who knows what doorways your new skill will open!
