The drive ran through this afternoon at Petco Park’s Gallagher Square (formerly Park in the Park). Sycuan Chairman Cody Martinez presented the San Diego Blood Bank with a check for $15,000 in support of the San Diego Blood Bank’s new donation location in Liberty Station. San Diego Blood Bank CEO David Wellis and Senior Vice President of Community and Military Affairs for the Padres, Tom Seidler were in attendance.
“We are so grateful to the Padres and Sycuan Casino Resort for partnering with us to make the drive happen again this year,” said San Diego Blood Bank CEO David Wellis. “As we are facing a national blood shortage, this couldn’t have come at a better time. Padres Summer Blood Drive is literally a lifesaver for local hospital patients.”
Every year, Padres Summer Blood Drive kicks off San Diego Blood Bank’s appeal to the community to donate during the summer months. Supplies are always low during summer with schools out of session. This summer is particularly challenging as the country is in the midst of a nationwide blood shortage.
To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 114 pounds, and be in general good health. Eligible blood donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment at SanDiegoBloodBank.org or calling 1-800-4-MY-SDBB (1-800-469-7322).
