This distinguished award recognizes individuals nationwide who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to blood donation.
Candy is a dedicated chairperson, blood donation advocate, and blood donor. For the last 14 years, she has hosted Candy’s Friends and Family Blood Drive in Pacific Beach. She has made an immeasurable impact on our community’s health not just by inspiring her friends and family to join her in donating blood, but by encouraging those same individuals to become dedicated donors for life. Candy is a Guardians Circle member working towards 4 gallons.
When the pandemic hit, Candy took immediate action and worked hard to rally a group of donors to give blood. She wanted to show that blood donation was safe and essential and to ensure local patients had the blood products they needed to continue treating cancers and blood diseases in a time when so much was uncertain. For patients in local hospitals, the need for blood does not stop during a public health crisis.
Candy is a living example of what it means to be a volunteer and community health advocate. Last month, Candy celebrated her birthday by donating blood with nine friends at our Gateway location.
San Diego Blood Bank proudly nominated Candy Yolles to earn this incredible achievement, and among hundreds of nominations, Fresenius Kabi chose to recognize Candy in the 2021 Hall of Fame class. Local patients are grateful for heroes like Candy.
On November 17, 2021, together with Fresenius Kabi, Candy’s friends and family, San Diego Blood Bank staff, and volunteers, we celebrated Candy Yolles as an official inductee to the Fresenius Kabi Donation Hall of Fame. We thank Candy for her years of lifesaving donations and commitment to recruiting blood donors and hosting blood drives.
