Donate blood to celebrate World Blood Donor Day on June 14

San Diego Blood Bank Honors Blood Donors on World Blood Donor Day

Every year on June 14, World Blood Donor Day is celebrated globally to raise awareness for the ongoing need for blood donations and to thank existing blood donors for their selfless acts.

Join San Diego Blood Bank in appreciating our volunteer blood donor community for their incredible gifts of blood that go on to help hospital patients in our region.

Blood and blood components are essential to help people survive everyday disasters, crises, and tragedies. They are necessary for surgeries, childbirth-associated bleeding, patients with traumatic injuries from accidents, cancer treatments, bone marrow transplants, immune-deficiency conditions, and so much more.

Every two seconds, someone, somewhere, needs blood. This is why blood donations are essential, and not just when there is a national disaster or pandemic.

“World Blood Donor Day gives us an opportunity to thank our many local donors who give the gift of life and to encourage others to start donating. We encourage people in good health to donate blood regularly and as often as is safe and possible to provide quality of life for patients who depend on transfusions. World Blood Donor Day is the perfect opportunity to make an appointment to donate blood.”   —San Diego Blood Bank CEO, Doug Morton

Blood donors are encouraged to join San Diego Blood Bank’s Guardians Circle Donor Pledge Program which rewards blood donors for their commitment to saving lives. Learn more about donor rewards and Guardians Circle Donor Pledge Program
