Our heartfelt thoughts are with the people in Texas and Florida and everyone affected by Tropical Storm Harvey and Hurricane Irma.
Blood Centers of America, a national organization that coordinates the efforts of blood centers across the country, has asked the San Diego Blood Bank to stand ready to send blood products (both red blood cells and platelets) to impacted areas.
We’re asking donors to come in now, so we have time to process the blood and get it on the shelves, should we be called for help. While we have not sent blood products yet, all donations in the last few weeks have enabled us to ensure our local hospitals have what is needed during this national shortage. Thank you for enabling us to serve patients in need, as well as prepare to meet a broader need across the country.
The San Diego Blood Bank is urging eligible donors, especially those with type O-positive and O-negative blood, to make appointments to donate blood as soon as possible.
